once again God's ways are opposite than our ways. The world tells you to be selfish and think of yourself, God tells us to give up ourselves for others. It sounds like a sacrifice but it is how you gain the best life, the higher life, all He has for us!
I think it means that we need to live our lives for his purpose, and do what he intended us to do. And not to live our lives for ourselves and our own selfish reasons.
it means that we shouldnt be livin for other reasons besides living for God. Because livin for ur own selfish reasons and not for Him wont amount to anything and will just cause u to never really find true happiness. But if u give up ur life and live for Him your life will be off da hook and thats where u can find true happiness.
it makes me think of that song, "I dont want to gain the whole world and lose my soul", for some reason. In order to fully understand that scripture you have to let it sink in first

God has said that he is our rock and that he will protect us. if you really think about it, if you havn't let God really in your life..your life really can't get any worse. so i say why not try to let God in and see the joy of knowing him.:)
